Best Coffee Cocktails: 10 Recipes for Coffee and Spirits

Coffee and spirits are natural partners. The bitterness of coffee complements the sweetness of liqueurs; the intensity of espresso stands up to strong spirits. Here are the best coffee cocktail recipes.

1. Espresso Martini

The classic. Shake with ice:

  • 50ml vodka
  • 35ml freshly pulled espresso (cooled)
  • 15ml Kahlúa
  • 5ml simple syrup
  • Double strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with 3 coffee beans.

    2. Irish Coffee

The comfort drink. In a warm glass:

  • 120ml hot strong coffee
  • 40ml Irish whiskey
  • 15ml brown sugar simple syrup
  • Lightly whipped cream floated on top
  • Drink through the cream — don't stir.

    3. White Russian

In a rocks glass over ice:

  • 50ml vodka
  • 25ml Kahlúa
  • 25ml heavy cream
  • 4. Cold Brew Negroni

  • 25ml gin
  • 25ml cold brew concentrate
  • 25ml sweet vermouth
  • 10ml Campari
  • Stir with ice, strain into coupe.

    5. Caffè Corretto

The Italian "corrected coffee" — a shot of espresso with a small pour of grappa, sambuca, or brandy added.

    6. Coffee Old Fashioned

  • 60ml bourbon
  • 10ml coffee syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Stir with ice, strain over a large cube.

    7. Mezcal Cold Brew

  • 45ml mezcal
  • 90ml cold brew
  • Honey syrup
  • Squeeze of orange
  • The smokiness of mezcal and the sweetness of cold brew are extraordinary together.

    Tips

Always use freshly pulled espresso — stale coffee makes bad cocktails. Cool your espresso quickly by shaking with lots of ice for cocktails.
