5 Stars Mr.Coffee Espresso-Cappuccino maker
After purchasing two other brands of espresso makers (which were faulty -both leaked), I bought this on advice from a friend who had one. She was right.
This is easy to use, has great pressure, and I’m now enjoying my cappuccino
every day, saving “bucks”, too. What a great idea and excellent value.
There’s simply no reason to waste money on the boutique coffee spots.
Make your own. It’s easy.
5 Stars Mr. Coffee ECMP50 & I … BFF (or as long as you last…)
The reviews are right. Mr. Coffee has come through with the ECMP50! This very affordable machine makes an eye-opening cup of espresso. Other reviewers have summed up the product quite well, I just wanted to chime in with my support. As far as taking advantage of this appliance, read the advice of the other reviewers (especially K. Kreuger). Also read the instructions. They are short, simple and important. I haven’t had a problem with leaking yet, and the tamp is flimsy as reported. Get rid of the black rubber tip on the frothing wand, and the single demitasse is too small to be practical. Other than that this unit is a beauty, and the espresso is de-lish! I am super pleased with my purchase.
5 Stars Who would have thought Mr. Coffee would come out with something this good?
Why spend hundreds of dollars on one of the really fancy machines, when you can spend $80 on this one and get perfect espressos and lattes every time? I really love this espresso maker and have recommended it to all my friends.
I’ve read some of the reviews on this site that state these machines can leak. I had that problem once and lifted up the rear reservoir of water, then seated it again. I think the valve could be where it’s leaking – it hasn’t been an issue since then.
The frother is fantastic. The only thing I don’t like about it is the difficulty in cleaning the rubber tube. My solution is to rinse the tube after every use, then drop it into a glass of soapy water next to the sink.
I removed the bottom tray completely so I can put a larger-sized coffee cup under it – that way I have a bigger cup for more hot soy milk in my coffee, which I prefer. After making each espresso, the machine will shoot out a small stream of hot water on the bottom for cleaning, which is normally caught by the tray. Because the tray’s no longer there, I lay down a kitchen towel to catch the hot water, then I use the wet corner of the towel to clean the frother spout after I’ve removed the rubber tube. Sounds complicated but it works quite well.
There is a learning curve when you first buy the machine, but I’ve become quite good at it. My African grey parrot is my buddy every morning and watches everything I do while my latte is put together – it’s become a cute daily ritual for us.
I highly recommend this machine for everyone, including neophytes to the espresso world.
4 Stars The best inexpensive espresso maker I’ve used
This machine is great – delivers good-tasting espresso in a reasonable amount of time with thick crema. No, it’s not the best machine – but you can’t find better for under $200! One suggestion – use a slightly coarser grind than you would normally for espresso for best results.
5 Stars A Simple Inexpensive Espresso Maker
I had one of those steam pots for making espresso for years. (See my review of the Capresso Mini.) The little steamer was still working fine but I had banged it up a bit over the years. I went in search of a replacement and came across this machine.
I am not an espresso nut. For some people creating the perfect shot of espresso is reason to live in itself…not me. I just want a tasty cappuchino in the morning with the minimum of fuss. That is exactly what this machine delivers.
The quality is a bit plastic-y…but what would you expect for the price? Even so it is attractive enough that I don’t mind it sitting on my kitchen counter. The foot print is a bit bigger than what I was used to with my Mini, but I do not think it is overly large when compared to other pump style espresso machines.
Like many other reviewers I immediately removed the rubber tip from the frothing wand and stashed the single-brew porta filter in the back of the junk drawer. doubt I’ll ever use either one.
The coffee it produces is very good. A real step up from the old steam pot. Steaming for the milk is adequate though hardly robust. Still I have never failed to get the steaming results I wanted, so no complaints. One thing I do like is that the machine can be ready to froth milk in a few seconds without ever having to brew espresso. There are times when I like to use frothed milk in various “Adult” winter beverages, and now it is easy for me to to whip them up anytime.
As has been mentioned by other reviewers there is enough room beneith the portafilter (that’s “brew basket” to the uninitiated)to place a full sized mug…not that you would want to brew a mug full of espresso all at once, but so that you can directly brew your shot into what will be your final cup. That is the real convenience of this feature.
The porta filter basket is a bit strange in that it has a double bottom to it. On the inside there is a layer with very fine holes to act as a filter as one would expect,….but turn the metal filter over and on the bottom there is only one single tiny hole. I believe that this may be a crema enhancing trick, but I am not sure about that. What I do know is that I have never seen another one like it. I also know that it causes a lot of constriction to the brewing of the coffee. Perhaps it is designed to make the dosing and tamping less critical in achieving a good cup of espresso? I do not have the answer, but so far it works, so I’m not complaining.
If you buy this espresso maker you will also need to get a tamper. The plastic one that comes with the machine is pretty flimsy. I got this one:
RSVP Terry’s Tamper
Which fits properly and does the job just fine without a lot of expense or fanfare.
If you are thinking about trying an espresso machine, but are not sure if a fancy one is worth the expense, this is a great choice.

3 Stars Enjoy a break
I love it.
I usually drink a cappuccino 3-5 times a day.
It supplys good coffee every day.
But I have one concern.
When I use this machine, it works with a big noise.
Sometimes I think it has something to break.
5 Stars It works beautifully and it has held up over the past year…
I was skeptical at first about buying a “Super Automatic Espresso Machine,” but I have not regretted buying this one! I’ve had it for a year now and it’s gotten much more intense use because I have it in my office. It probably gets used 15 to 20 times a day and it still works like it was brand new. You do need to learn how to clean it which is very, very easy to do and, depending on your water, you need to descale the machine periodically. This is also very easy to do.
I did have trouble at first getting the hang of “attaching” the milk pitcher properly, but once the machine got to be about two months old, the connections became easy and I also learned not to just “jam” the pitcher into place, but to align the nozzle with the top connecter very gently, but with sufficient force so it forms a tight connection as intended.
Previously, I had tried several of the other brands, but this is the only one that lasted more than a couple of months and wasn’t a pain to use.
5 Stars Excellent Coffee Machine
This is really a great machine. It makes the best coffee I have ever tasted. It is completely automatic so you have nothing to do but fill it and empty it.
The only draw-back I have, other than the price, is that the function to re size the cups you use is limited. I use 12 oz coffee cups, but the machine only allows 6.3 oz at the most, so I just set it for 2 coffees.
All-in-all, you get what you pay for. Excellent Machine DeLonghi !!
2 Stars Bad milk frother
It’s a nice and useful espresso maker, except by the fact that I had to replace the machine twice for the same reason, malfunction of the milk container. Unfortunately, I will have to replace it again or get the money back… The frothing pitcher (milk container) does not attach very tight to the appliance, hence no froth. I have to strongly push the milk container with my hands against the applicance and hold it tight to get some froth. It looks like the container does not attach tight enough to the nozzle.
4 Stars Wonderful! But in all fairness…
This machine, in all its glory, has a few inherent flaws. I will mention only a few because the positives do outweigh the negatives.
Firstly, when the water tank runs on empty all functions are immediately ceased and reset. You have a cup full of wonderfully frothed milk and the grinder has just freshly ground a serving of aromatic beans, but these fresh, aromatic beans are discarded because the water tank must be refilled before any function can resume. Upon refilling and replacing the water tank and subsequently pressing the espresso button, the grinder will prepare another round of grounds for a fresh new serving. If, however, the beans have run out or there are not enough beans for a full serving, the machine does not let you know until after it has gone through another grinding stage, at which point it advises you “fill beans container”. If, at this point, you are not thoroughly aggravated, perhaps this will be the random one in one hundred times your coffee comes out inexplicably lukewarm rather than hot.
However, for the most part, 90% of the time, this machine is perfect. It makes a delicious assortment of coffees, makes them very quickly (suitable for parties), and is unbelievably easy to clean. The only way I will get rid of mine is if I am upgrading to the Rialto or the Gran Dama.

5 Stars Mr. Coffee Espresso/Capuccino machine
I am enjoying using this product. At a reasonable price, it provides good espresso coffee and the the foaming wand produces the “dry” foam or “crema” I prefer on my capuccino.
5 Stars Great espresso
This espresso maker is easy to use, foolproof, and makes both plain and steamed milk drinks, for the price you cannot beat it!
4 Stars Excellent for the Price! Good Little Machine
I USED TO drink Starbucks daily so I am kinda picky with my espresso/latte drinks. This is a great machine for the price. Granted it is my 2nd espresso maker. It was very affordable at Target. Easy to use and makes yummy espresso. I don’t use the steam part jus tthe coffee maker. The reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because it didn’t come with a tamper to press the coffee down. Also the little knob to start the brewing and the lid to the water part is a bit hard to turn-doable though. Since I had some medium grind coffee left over I used that and it was fine. I feel like the espresso catcher is durable but I also treat the machine carefully as I do with all of my machines. Otherwise I’ve used it daily for 3 months now with no problems.
4 Stars Mr Coffee Cappuccino Machine – one slight flaw
The machine works just fine now. The first time or two the steam escaped through the top. I believe this is due to the fact that it does not screw down straight and tight. I tried to adjust it as I put it on, but it continues to screw on slightly crooked. Overall though – it does the job!
1 Star A real pain
Way too much trouble to use. All screw-on parts are too hard to operate and the milk frother cannot be used without brewing coffee. (Water alone runs through too fast and there is no steam build-up, hence no frothing). When the frother does work, it makes a very watery kind of froth. (I have a battery-operated frother that is a million times better). The quality of the tiny coffee pot is also very poor (the handle is too soft and sort of splits in half). This is one useless machine.

5 Stars Amazing!!
I had been researching an espresso machine for over a year and was considering one in the range of $2,000.00. I had lived in Italy for over a year and consider myself a connoisseur of a good espresso. I bought the Nespresso for my in-laws so I could have a good cup of coffee during visits. I have been so impressed with the quality of the espresso and the thick crema that comes out of this relatively inexpensive machine – it is unbelievable! Initially, I thought the Nespresso pods would be an inconvenience but the quality of the coffee is amazing and they are easy to use and easy to order. We are going to purchase Le Cube for us. If you like Lattes or Cappuccinos, I would recommend the Froth Au Lait milk frother. It makes a large quantity of an amazing, dense froth. The Nespresso frother is good but makes only enough for 1 person and it is not worth it for a couple or family. Enjoy!
5 Stars Convenient and fast way to make decent coffee
This small machine makes very decent coffee with a minimum of fuss. Just pop in one of the little capsules and hit the button and you’re set. Pretty quiet as well so you don’t wake up the rest of the family for your morning shot.
The machine fits the Bodum 2-Ounce espresso glasses on top but not much more due to limited height. Would have been nice to be able to keep full size glasses handily available as well but I guess it would have made the machine bigger.
4 Stars Great coffee, Very Good machine.
Well, first the coffee:
Great taste. All the four I have tried.
Capsule system is a charm to work with. No fumbling, no measuring, no preparing, no setting up, no cleaning messy work space in the kitchen.
Coffee is perfect every time. Every time.
I used to put a little milk or foam to all of my coffees. I don’t need to do that anymore.
The machine:
Very good looking piece of design. And the performance is fast, precise, clean, elegant.
To be a quiet machine, is a little too noisy, in my modest opinion.
Water receptacle doesn’t stay open if you want to get the water there instead of taking the tank out of the machine and put it under the water.
Very easy to clean. Very easy and fast to assemble.
It makes a little noise every fifteen seconds, like some thermostat that is regulating the temperature of the water, or something. Only hear it if you are next to the machine. Kind of annoying if you are cooking besides the machine, which I do (again: not a NOISE, not TOO annoying, just things that pop up, for helping you, potential buyers).
Yes, as another reviewer said, it looses some drops of coffee/water before and after pouring the coffee. I don’t like that either.
Big downside to the machine:
It warms up the cups, a great feature. But be very careful because it can store a very restricted variety of cups. Not the lungo ones (too tall), not some small wooden ones that I love (too wide), not some others I tried.
It was an important point for me, and now I can’t use the storage and warming space because none of my cups fit.
And no, I don’t want to have those cups with the Nespresso logo imprinted on the glass or carved on the porcelain. My house is not a Nespresso boutique.
I’m very happy with the purchase, but if I have to buy a Nespresso Machine again, it would be the smaller one, which will take less space on the kitchen, and eventually will be easier to move or carry around in its own travel bag.
One more thing, about the service at the Nespresso Shop (in New York):
At first I went there to ask for help on the selection of the kind of capsules I would buy, and for the cups.
The lady there gave me a taste of two capsules. Then I asked for the lungo one, and she did it, but without any smiles on her face. She made me feel like a guy who comes from the street in a freezing day to have some free coffee.
I bought the capsules with an unpleasant feeling, wanting to leave the store very fast, and I also bought the glass cups.
And then, at the hotel, I decided that I didn’t want the cups because of the logo, and I also realized that, in the rush, I purchased the wrong kind of capsules (12 different possibilities, which is great and confusing at the same time) so I wanted to return the cups and buy more coffee, and make the exchange of the wrong capsules.
The lady that took care of me this time wasn’t polite at all, and had an attitude that made me feel that I won’t want to go there again to buy more coffee, or anything else.
I mean: when you buy a Nespresso machine you are not just a guy from the street anymore; you become a kind of a partner for them, since you will have to buy their capsules FOREVER and EVER. So the service cannot be the regular one you get when you just drop by in any store to make stupid questions, or does it?
It was a very unpleasant experience for me. But happy me that I don’t live in New York anyway.
Hope the other stores I will visit in the future will have better service.
5 Stars Great espresso!
There is nothing much to say, great espresso, beautiful machine, easy to clean, what else?
I am not going to enter into the debate on capsules vs beans, but if you decided you want the convenience of the capsules, Nespresso is a great choice, they have good selection and home delivery.
Before the cube I tried the Lattissima, but it didn’t worked for me, the coffee was warm and not hot. This is certainly not the case with the Cube which provides perfectly hot coffee…

It’s easy.

1 Star piece of junk
Don’t get me wrong – I love Mr Coffee pump espresso makers. I’ve had 2 ECMP10′s and an ECMP40 – all wonderful and long-lived. I have had this for 2 weeks and it broke this morning – I turned it on to warm it up and water came gushing out from the inside. Time to find a different brand.
5 Stars Mr. Coffee, inDEED!!
Man, I love this machine. I’m a cappuccino connoisseur of sorts, always in search of a great cup anywhere, and I think I’ve found one in Mr. Coffee’s ECMP50. It’s so inexpensive, yet it makes a brilliant cappuccino. Some very good and thorough reviews have already been written, but I want to express how excited I am about Mr. Coffee, right now.
The espresso maker produces an excellent crema. You gotta watch the brew, so you can manually shut it off when the drip starts to look weak. The measuring scoop has a tamper that works great, so you don’t really need to buy one.
Being a first time frother, it took me three times to get the frothing right (using soy milk,) and boy is it glorious once you get it going. I just use a plastic, refrigerated cup for my “milk pitcher”, and it works perfectly. One thing the instructions don’t mention, for some reason, is that the water reservoir must have water in it for the steamer to work. Also, I don’t use the rubber tip on the steamer at all.
Overall, this cappuccino maker is real easy to use and cleaning up is a cinch. AWEsome. I highly recommend it!!
Some tips:
5 Stars Never thought an espresso machine under $100 would be this good
I’m completely satisfied and very pleasantly surprised by this espresso machine. I haven’t tried the cappuccino feature yet, but the coffee it makes is top quality. I’m not a coffee snob, but I generally know what good coffee is. This is far better than the Senseo by Philips. I can use it make coffee that is just as good as Starbucks espresso coffee, if not better.
The fact that it takes any ground coffee you have, instead of requiring specially made coffee pads, is the great plus. It allows more freedom of choices and results in big savings in a long term. Quite easy to operate as well. Highly recommended.
The only problem I have with this is that my friends will think I have indulged myself by buying a very expensive espresso machine.
